Spruce Up Your Outdoor Living Areas

It’s October in Arizona and that means one thing – gorgeous weather to enjoy our outdoor living areas!

Below are a few tips to spruce up your outdoor areas to take full advantage of the season and enjoy one of our best times of year here in the Valley of the Sun.

Tidy up your patio

After monsoon and the busy-ness of getting kids back in school, our outdoor living areas have likely been a bit neglected. It’s probably time for a patio and furniture hose down. Have a few dry absorbent rags on hand to help dry areas where water may pool to avoid water spots on your furniture. If possible, hose off cushions as well and leave in the sun to dry thoroughly.

Hand wipe down any lanterns and replace expired candles or bulbs. You can also purchase a set or two of string lights to add evening ambience to your patio area.

Have a small wood fire pit, or a gas heater? Now is a good time to refill an extra propane tank or two, or stock up on a few bags of firewood so you’re prepared for any last minute evening entertaining.

Add some color

Due to summer, it’s likely some your potted plants may be a bit worse for wear. Stop by your local hardware store and pick up a few new colorful plants for your pots. Planting some new flowers is an easy way to instantly add color and life to your patio. Another fun item for pots is herbs. They grow well in the small spaces and they give you fresh flavors for fall cooking.

Our Arizona sun does a number on cushions and pillows. Check end of summer sales for patio cushions and pillows on clearance to get a great deal. Some new bright accents such as throw pillows on loungers and seating areas can make a huge difference in making your outdoor living space pop and look brand new!

Replace the old

Is your welcome mat looking a bit run down? With the holidays and extra visitors around the corner, now is a good time to replace a worn door mat. It’s one of the first things people coming to visit will see before entering your home so it’s a great low cost item to make your guests feel welcome before they even get through the door.

Get a clear view

Kids or grandkids have a bit too much fun this summer with water guns? If so, your windows are likely in need of a good fall cleaning. Hire a professional if you have a lot of windows or 2 stories. If you have a single story and not too many windows, you can easily do the job with a window sponge, squeegee and window cleaner. You’ll be amazed at how dirty those windows really are and what a difference cleaning them makes.
