Get Your House Ready for Holiday Guests

The holidays are the busiest time of the year, and it’s even busier when you have house guests coming to town.

Not only do you want everything to look welcoming and beautiful, you want to consider their personal comfort as well. You already know you need to clean the house and make sure everything is tidy and neat. In addition, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference, which is why preparing your home for your holiday guests should include some of our favorite ideas.

Hit the Holiday Sales

The sales are beginning now, and that meant it’s time to find a plush robe or two to hang in the guest room as well as a few new towels if yours have seen better days. A nice clean stack of fluffy towels on an inviting bed is a comforting sight to guests who may have had a long day traveling.

Place A Welcome Basket in the Guest Room or Guest Bath

Make your guests feel like a VIP;  providing a small basket with some welcome items is a great idea. We love the idea of putting some toiletries such as body lotion, decadent body wash and a loofah in a basket. A few extras such as razors and toothbrushes are also nice in case they forgot any items. Make sure to have plenty of shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash, disposable cups, Q-tips and cotton balls available as well.

Everyone loves a clean bathroom

Of course you’ll want to make sure the shower and toilet are clean, especially if you don’t use the guest bathroom all too often and it’s not on your regular cleaning list. Keeping some Clorox wipes, toilet cleaner and brush, and mirror cleaner in the bathroom can make it quick and easy for you to clean in a pinch and may prompt your guests to tidy up a bit before departing.

Keep a few extra touches in mind

You can take it a step further by including a holiday scented candle and some holiday treats, too. It’s always a nice idea to leave a few bottles of water in the room, too.Hang some extra hangers in the guest closet, and don’t forget to clean it out a bit so your guests have some personal space.

Know Their Likes

Long before your guests arrive, be sure to ask what they prefer to eat and drink and whether they have any food allergies. Stock up on their favorite foods, their preferred coffee and the beverages they prefer. This makes guests feel right at home when they’re in your home, which is what you want any time of year.

Now, check the “guest prep” off your list, relax and enjoy your family and friends this season. There is nothing more fun than spending time the people you love the most during the most festive time of the year.
